You've Got Questions. We've got Answers......
Q: Does your soap contain lye?
A: Why, yes, yes it does. I'm sure your screaming on the inside as I say this, but without lye, there is no soap, and without lye, it is not considered real soap.
In all reality when the lye and oils combine in the saponifying process the lye is gone. The lye has combined and the chemical reaction is complete therefore the lye is no longer there anymore.
Lye is used in all soap forms, melt and pour, cold process, hot process and those soaps that get rebatched. Its also known as sodium hydroxide. If you don't believe me here is a really good webpage on Lye : http://voices.yahoo.com/why-soapmakers-lye-soap-safe-7373576.html
So if someone says they have an allergy to lye and used an unscented soap that had lye in it,, well, chances are extremely high that if it were an unscented soap that they had a reaction to one of the oils rather then lye because the lye is gone. Or chances are that the soap did not cure for 4-6 weeks before being sold and the ph was off.
Q: Does your soap contain animal or vegetable based oils?
A: Soap Ladies soap contains vegetable based oils. Unless someone specifically asks for a bar of soap containing animal oils you won't find them here. You will find these types of oils in our soap products:
Olive, Coconut, Palm , Castor , Sunflower, Safflower, Avacado and any other vegetable loving skin oil I can find to name a few. Even our glycerin soaps contain vegetable grade glycerin. If you look at all our products ,I do label them online so you can read and decide what is good for you.
Q: Do you sell unscented soap?
A: Yes, we do sell unscented soap. The only thing you will find it in it are skin loving oils. We recognize that there are those who do not like fragrant/essential oil soaps, or are sensitive to the smells of fragrance/essential oils , or have allergies to fragrances/essential oils , or there are those that just want a plain ol' bar of soap.
I do not use nut oils in my unscented soap keeping those with allergies in mind. With each of our soaps posted I list the ingredients so that you can make a well formed decision on what is right for you. If you have any questions about any of the products feel free to contact us and we will work on getting an answer for you.
Q: What kind of colorants do you use?
A: Well this will depend on the soap we make. I like to use my colorants from Brambleberry.com. So if you ever want to know what their color products contain feel free to visit their website and look under colorants. I also will dabble in making colorants from herbs too as time goes on.
Q: Do you make soap with fragrances?
A: Amazingly enough when I first started making soap the first oil I bought was an Essential Oil. I love Essential oils because they have healing properties. But I found that many people were asking me for fragrances more than Essential oil based soaps. So , yes, we do carry them for those who prefer the scent of fragrant oils over essential oils.
Our Cold Processed soaps are divided into Fragrance and Essential oil soaps so you can easily find what you are looking for.
Our hot processed soaps will contain Essential oils.
Our Melt and Pours will most likely contain fragrance oils versus essential oils only because Essential Oils tend to cloud them up. I will say maybe about 98% of our melt and pours will contain fragrances and 2% will contain Essential Oils that I can use. Actually the very first bar I made was an olive oil melt and pour with Balsam Peru. Again these will be stated in the description of the products on our page.
Q: What does it mean when your product says its Temporarily Out of Stock?
A: This means that we have sold out and need to make more. Time will depend on when we get our shipments in from soap making companies. Some come quickly to us and some not so quickly. So we have to wait sometimes to get certain products in. Also some products are already made but if its cold process will need to take 4-6 weeks to cure, or if its hot process will need to take 1-2 weeks to cure for a good hard bar of soap that will last you longer. Melt and Pours get done that very day and will get shipped out the next day. We can all hope someday that some Star Trek method will be made where our shipments can be beamed to us.
